DescriptionThe University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a
Counselor/Coordinator, Academic Program position for Upward Bound.
The Counselor/Coordinator is responsible for recruiting eligible
first-generation, income qualified participants for a federally
funded program from target middle and high schools.The
Counselor/Coordinator maintains positive working relationships with
parents, university, school district, and community personnel to
ensure appropriate referrals, and to access and utilize on and
off-campus resources to assist in participant development.The
individual collects and reviews documents to assist the Director in
determining applicant eligibility and completes academic and
developmental needs assessments with participants on a continuing
basis.The position provides each participant with an Education
Action Plan leading to successful academic and personal
development, and provides participants with individual and group
counseling and advisement.The Counselor/Coordinator assists with
the collection of information needed for federal reporting and
maintains current participant files and provides instruction for
grade level appropriate college preparatory services, and plans
co-curricular programming.The Counselor/Coordinator will work
onsite at the University in the Upward Bound office from June thru
August and travel to Fernley and Silver Springs, NV one to four
days a week from September thru May. The individual reports to the
Director, Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math Science
Programs.Required QualificationsBachelor's Degree and two (2) years
of related work experience ORMaster's Degree and (1) year of
related work experienceRelated Experience: Advising and counseling
service to low-income and first-generation college-bound high
school students and education curriculum development or related
experience.Certification and Licensure
