Department: DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION Division: DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION Business Unit: HR-TRANSPORTATION ADMIN Work Type: PERMANENT Pay Grade: GRADE 37 Salary Range: $55,958.40 - $83,394.72 Fulltime/Parttime: Full TimeRecruiter: DONALD R RUSSELL Phone: 775 888-7066 Email: Position Description Staff Associate Engineers perform professional engineering assignments not requiring licensure by the State Board of Professional Engineers & Land cumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.This position is located in Carson City within the Road Design Division. Incumbent will act as team leader and manage the work product they produce or personally (actively) produces all the work that needs to get done, actively participates in all necessary coordination/communication to complete assigned projects, and is responsible for directing all aspects of contract development for projects assigned to them. Duties include training engineering staff, calculating and checking plan quantities; developing estimates using the current estimating system; developing estimate summaries and structure lists; producing CADD drawings (using MicroStation/ InRoads) such as typical sections, traffic control, striping, special details, and profiles; establishing and calculating roadway geometrics and applying roadway design standards set by AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD, and NDOT policy.This recruitment may be used to fill multiple positions within the Roadway Design Division, in Carson City. To see full Class Specifications visit: Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or closely related engineering field and two years of professional engineering experience; OR Certification by the Nevada State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as an Engineer Intern, and two years of professional engineering experience in civil engineering or closely related engineering field; OR two years of experience as a Staff I, Associate Engineer or Supervisor I, Associate Engineer in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience." The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. Special Requirements This position requires travel to remote locations throughout the State, often with overnight stays. A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Working knowledge of computer software programs necessary to complete job assignments. Ability to establish rapport and gain the trust of others. Ability to operate personal computers and associated engineering software. Working knowledge of engineering principles and practices. Ability to write engineering reports and other technical documents. Ability to make logical engineering judgments and decisions. Ability to communicate orally using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and provide information and explain policies and procedures. Ability to understand and perform statistical computations. Ability to read and understand engineering information from plans, drawings, specifications, manuals, correspondence, reports, graphs and memos. Ability to analyze technical information, problems, situations, practices or procedures to identify relevant concerns, formulate logical and objective conclusions and recognize alternatives and their implications.
