Job Title: Staff Accountant Salary - Exempt

Reports to: Regional Controller

Job Location: Reno, Nevada

Salary Range: $45,000-65,000/annually

The Staff Accountant, reporting to the Regional Controller or Senior Accountant, performs professional accounting work including the maintenance and review of financial records; prepares various reports and financial statements; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.


Recurring accounting tasks:

  • Execute day-to-day accounting tasks
  • Monitor bank accounts to ensure all transactions have been properly recorded
  • Perform audits & reconciliations of petty cash, cash vault, change bank, and dispensary cash accounts
  • Prepare daily cash activity summary & forecast
  • Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable management as needed
  • Collaborate with HR to book bi-weekly payroll and to execute related bank transfers
  • Book journal entries to ensure completeness and accuracy of general ledger

Financial statement preparation:

  • Prepare monthly journal entries & requisite support
  • Ensure proper accrual of expenses at period-end
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Assist in preparation of monthly close package, including financial statements
  • Execute a variety of other reporting needs including royalty calculations, local sales tax calculations, fixed asset accounting and bank compliance reporting

Audit support and preparation:

  • Support the Company's year-end audit process
  • Prepare supporting documentation and schedules as requested
  • Follow up with audit staff when they have questions
  • Assist with preparation and referencing of IFRS documentation

Other business-critical tasks:

  • Execute general ledger maintenance & support requests as requested
  • Execute continuous improvement projects as directed by the Senior Accountant and Regional Controller
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and reporting as requested
  • Perform additional accounting, financial and other duties as assigned

  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills; especially Excel
  • Experience with general ledger/ERP systems, preferred
  • Trustworthiness and ability to keep strict confidentiality
  • BS or BA degree in Finance or Accounting preferred, preferred
  • One to three years experience in public accounting or bookkeeping; exposure to manufacturing/retail, preferred
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws relating to key areas of responsibility
  • Must be able to secure Nevada Agent Card Registration with the Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board
  • Must be 21 years of age or older, and be able to pass an extensive background check
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States


  • Able to use a computer for extended periods of time
  • Able to move about a typical office, manufacturing, warehouse, or retail environment
  • Able to perform general office and administrative activities
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 pounds occasionally
  • Regular and on-time attendance
  • Hours regularly exceed 40 hours per week
  • Occasional travel by conventional means including aircraft, motor vehicle and the like within the region and to other locations as required


Work is performed mostly in an office setting but does include some travel to several locations including a cannabis cultivation and production facility and dispensaries. The working area may be odorous at times and loud due to fans and filtration systems, fluctuating between cold and warm temperatures. Work may include dealing with law enforcement and occasional State inspectors.
