Position Purpose Under the direction of the supervisor on duty,
proficiently collects blood specimens in a timely manner as
specified by laboratory policies and procedures and in accordance
with federal and state regulations. Uses the laboratory information
system to determine test status and keep nursing personnel informed
to assist in and expedite patient care. Other support tasks will be
required at all times such as telephone answering, non-blood
specimen collections, sample handling, special procedures, customer
support, and any clerical duties required. All other duties listed
above provide support for a 24-hour/7-day a week operation to aid
the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. The
incumbent working as a Laboratory Assistant Lead is expected to be
technically proficient at all times in a variety of stressful
situations such as a trauma or code blue situation. In a lead
capacity the incumbent is also expected to provide operational
oversight in regards to all patient care activities to ensure the

Requirements - Required and/or Preferred Name Description
Education: Must have working-level knowledge of the English
language, including reading, writing and speaking English.
Appropriate education to obtain and maintain State of Nevada
Laboratory Assistant licensure. Experience: At least 1 (one) year
recent general laboratory or phlebotomy experience is required.
License(s): Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Point
of Care Analyst licensure within three months of hire is required
for 200289. Failure to do so will result in termination.
Requires current State of Nevada license for Laboratory Assistant
upon hire. Incumbent may also possess an active Point of Care
licensure, which would take the place of a State of Nevada license
for Laboratory Assistant for 200295, 200289, 400289
Valid State of Nevada or California driver's license and ability to
pass Renown Health's Department of Motor Vehicle Report
criteria.(not required for 200287 and 400288) Certification(s):
Ability to pass ASCP Board of Registry Examination for Phlebotomy
Technician within 15 months of hire is required. Failure to apply
for the certification and pass within 15 months of hire will result
in demotion to Clinical Laboratory Assistant (not required for
200287) Computer / Typing: Must possess, or be able to obtain
within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online
learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online
forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
