The position specifically includes work in the Emergency Department (ED), Consult and Liaison (C&L) Service. The psychologist will consult on patients as requested. He/she will diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychosocial assessments, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities, and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders, Among the modalities which may be provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies. Consultations occurs with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. The position will include the following duties, but not limited to: Provide a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnoses mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients. Provide education to patients, family members, and significant others. Provide education to medical staff and nursing staff. Provide comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy, as appropriate. Plan, develop, adapt, implement and assesses efficacy of mental health and behavioral interventions for the promotion of mental health stabilization and recovery for individuals served on the inpatient Mental Health Unit as well as those presenting to the Emergency Department or served on inpatient Medicine and Surgery. Work with Nursing leadership to provide specific training, guidance, and mentoring of MHU Nurses and others to facilitate effective coaching and interventions. Perform specialty health psychology assessment/intervention (e.g., pre-bariatric surgery, pre-transplant, transgender veterans seeking cross-gender hormone treatment, chronic pain patients seeking implanted stimulators or pain mediation pumps, brief neuropsychological assessments).As a member of the Behavioral Medicine team, contributes to coverage of the Emergency Department and Consultation and Liaison to Medicine, Surgery and Geriatrics and Extended Care. Work schedule: Full Time, 40 hours per week, Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm.
