Job Description:

Summary :
Maximizes human, equipment and financial resources and ensure that they are used appropriately.
Suggests new processes & procedures that will increase Bureau Veritas' market share, profile and profitability.
Facilitates the production of high quality defensible data, safely and on time.
Ensures methods in use meet current and proposed regulatory guidelines.
Organizes and directs staff, to maintain a good working environment and ensures continuous improvement in productivity and efficiency.

Duties :
Co-ordinates requests or recommends resource planning e.g. need for additional staff or equipment.
Elevates significant & complex resource issues to Manager.
Monitors lab supplies and equipment.
Develops strategic plans with the objective of preparing the department for continued growth.
Develops and nurtures ongoing relationship with peers in other internal departments and its customers. Works to anticipate their needs and how the operation can meet and exceed their expectations.
With the Manager, assists in developing business plans that increase Bureau Veritas' profile in the region.
Leads and develops staff - including responsibility for recruitment of new employees, setting objectives, evaluating performance and expectations, coaching and mentoring, working jointly with employees in the development of their career path, ensuring that adequate training is provided.
Handles performance and attendance management issues (with input from Management and Human Resources).
Develops and maintains a positive work environment for employees.
Acts as technical resource for Manager, Client Services and staff.
Ensures that employees are following the SOPs and work to reduce non-conformances.
Provides information, instructions, and assistance to all staff in order to protect the health and safety of our employees.
Understands and enforces our EHS Policy as well as the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Provides all staff with proper, well-maintained equipment, plus any other special personal protective devices, which may be required.
Provides bi-weekly safety talks with their staff.
Participates in monthly worksite inspections of their area.
Ensures hazard assessments and critical task analysis are done within their area of responsibility.
Monitors staff and hold them accountable for their individual safety performance.
Leads by example.
Acts as a positive change agent in supporting Bureau Veritas' new initiatives (operational and cultural).
Adheres to Bureau Veritas Code of Ethics Policy.
Supports and complies with all Bureau Veritas' policies, Quality System and Health & Safety program.
Participates/performs, when requested in department and Health & Safety meetings.
Participates/performs, when requested in internal and external audits.
Keeps work area clean, neat and organized.
Maintains training records and relevant qualifications.
All other responsibilities as assigned.

Skills :
Accurately follows Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and instructions.
Assesses problems and recommends solutions.
Excellent up-to-date knowledge of laboratory process and automation.

Thorough understanding of Bureau Veritas' Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Minimum Qualifications :
Demonstrated success in the role of Team Lead.
5 years of experience in specific environment of which 2 are at a leadership level.

Education :
B.Sc. or technical diploma and equivalent experience.

Working Conditions :
May involve long periods of standing.
Some lifting and carrying (up to 10 kgs).
Requires flexible working hours, overtime and shift work.
Hazardous materials are handled using established safety procedures and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Leadership Skills :
Ability to deal with different situations and personalities.
Good team building, training, and coaching skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
