Job Description Position Purpose: This position, under the general direction of the Renown Institute for Heart and Vascular Health, is responsible for the management of all aspects of cardiovascular clinical research within the Institute, including but not limited to regulatory activities, IRB submissions, study start-up, subject screening and enrollment, data collection and entry, drug accountability, study close-out, and assisting in financial processes. Additionally, the position requires the research nurse to operate within the context of evidence based nursing practice and the theory of caring. Nature and Scope: This position requires the execution and maintenance of all research protocols according to applicable regulations and guidelines. The research nurse must be highly organized, able to work independently as well as part of a team, exhibit flexibility to work between departments within the research division and the institution, and have excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with physicians, research staff, ancillary personnel, as well as patients and families. The research nurse actively recruits new clinical trials including developing liaisons with collaborators, sponsors, and external regulatory agencies to facilitate this process. Knowledge and application of regulatory requirements pertinent to clinical trial conduct are required [including Federal Guidelines on Human Subjects in Research, International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and International Air Transport Association (IATA)]. The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial, and safety appropriate to the adult and geriatric patient population served and meets standards of quality as measured by the unit/department age specific competency standards. Evidence based nursing practice; along with critical thinking skills are required to provide optimally safe practice when interacting with internal and external contacts and exercising judgment and making decisions. Professional nursing practice is congruent with the American Nurses Association Code of Ethics. It is common to encounter potential hazards in the healthcare environment. Some of these hazards could include, but are not limited to: radiation, toxic chemicals, biological hazards, heat, noise, dust and stress. Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred Education: Must have working level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. BSN preferred. Experience: Three years cardiovascular nursing experience, plus two years experience working on clinical trials as a study coordinator preferred. Minimum of one year of RN experience required. License(s): Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Registered Nurse license. Certification(s): BLS certification by American Heart Association standards. Human Subject Protection Certificate or CITI Training Certificate required. IATA certification required within 6 months. CCRP and/or CCRC preferred. Computer / Typing: Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Essential Physical Requirements It is common to encounter potential hazards in the healthcare environment.
