The Sr. Project Manager/Project Manager will work closely with the Group Manager to coordinate, implement, execute, and control all aspects of assigned projects. As an experienced engineering professional, the Sr. Project Manager/Project Manager will be a subject matter expert and/or experienced in managing large scale projects. This position provides mentoring and project guidance for engineering team. As a leadership position within the company, the Sr. Project Manager/Project Manager will have a track record of consistent business development and leading efforts to secure large scale projects or technical projects within their subject area expertise. The Sr. Project Manager/Project Manager will also play a role in marketing the technical expertise of the firm. This position is responsible for overseeing staff workload, scheduling, communications, employee and Client relations, performance counseling, and performance management. This position will work out of a Lumos & Associates office: Nevada - Reno, Carson City, Fallon, South Lake Tahoe, or California - El Dorado Hills. Office location will be determined as part of the selection process.

  • Provide expertise and guidance for overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters within team; consult with Group Manager and Engineering Director concerning unusual project situations, and obtain approvals as appropriate.
  • Provide leadership in the development of new business and promoting repeat and referral business with existing clients in alignment with company strategies and goals; participate in networking events and business development meetings. This includes writing proposals, SOQs, RFQ responses etc. Regularly able to develop approach and follow through to obtain large scale projects with individual project fees in excess of $250,000.
  • Manage multiple projects with budgets in access of $100,000 concurrently.
  • Prepare and review project proposals, qualification statements, promotional materials, and professional services agreements; responsible for preparation, obtaining internal and external approvals, and managing final execution and subsequent amendments.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and delegating to staff; provide regular "on-the-job" training for staff.
  • Prepare and present projects to local authorities (i.e. planning board and staff review committee meetings).
  • Serve as primary contact with clients; foster culture of effective internal and external communication between client and staff.
  • Develop and implement project schedules and resource management in coordination with Group Manager that facilitates timely performance.
  • Provide QA/QC oversite of assigned designs and projects and stamp projects in responsible charge. This includes reviewing engineering drawings, calculations, reports, and technical deliverables to ensure they meet per company and industry standards when stamping.
  • Manage project budget; communicate budget allocation and expectations to staff for assigned projects.
  • Oversee or in some cases produce the design or a specific technical component of a design and provide guidance to staff for completion.
  • Manage client invoicing including providing information and answering Client questions regarding invoices.
  • Coordinate with Group Managers to ensure proper workload allocation to staff.
  • As needed, develop or guide the development of complex engineering drawings using CAD/Civil 3D and GIS software in conformance with company and industry standards.
  • Guide the use of Engineering standards for staff preparation of plans, field visits, report writing, and construction assistance activities.
  • Delegate the preparation of due diligence/site analysis reports, engineer opinion of probable costs, utility computations, detention/retention computations, technical reports, and civil design.
  • Delegate the preparation of permit applications for applicable municipal agencies.
  • Coordinate with outside utility companies and municipalities to gather information necessary for design.
  • Delegate the preparation of technical reports, cost estimates, and permitting documents.
  • Lead field visits, construction site visits, and provide assistance related to the aspects of construction assistance activities (verify quantities, field reports, process pay applications, etc.).
  • Review and approve staff timesheets.
  • Conduct recurring staff meetings to review workload and scheduling.
  • Manage staff backlog and project staffing needs.
  • Delegate the preparation of or prepare models or guide computer modeling for analysis of water, sewer, stormwater. Prepare or guide the preparation of reports based upon modeling in coordination with the team.
  • In Coordination with the Group Manager, participate in staff selection/interview process. Recruit, hire, and oversee training of staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements
    • Bachelor's degree from a four-year College or University with emphasis in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
    • 7 - 10 years of progressive civil engineering experience.
    • Nevada Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, or ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months.
    • Experience working in and managing a diverse staff in multiple disciplines.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company.
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently.
    • Excellent technical writing.
    • Ability to provide sound solutions, solve problems, and resolve conflicts.
    • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and conduct multi-tasking efforts.
    • Proficiency with AutoCAD and civil design software is a plus.
    • Ability to work hours necessary to complete work within required time frames with regard to deadlines.
    • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook).
    • Valid driver license and clean driving record.
