Job Description:
The Room Tax Accountant is responsible for ensuring the proper
and accurate licensing for all lodging facilities licensees, and
communication with room taxpayers to ensure compliance with Board
approved Transient Lodging Tax and Surcharge Regulations. The Room
Tax Accountant conducts scheduled audits on lodging facilities to
ensure compliance with RSCVA Regulations. The Room Tax Accountant
is responsible for the timely and accurate filing of all room tax
returns and full payment of taxes due. The Room Tax Accountant
ensures proper and timely processing of collected room tax and
accurate monthly reporting of statistical data to the Room Tax
Manager, Vice President of Finance, CEO, Board of Directors, as
well as the posting of the data on the RSCVA website.JOB DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIESAll duties below at the direction of the Room Tax
Manager and Vice President of Finance.Assists with the auditing of
Room Tax Revenues in conformity with RSCVA Transient Lodging Tax
and Surcharge Regulations.Assists in the preparation of various
reports for presentation to management, the Board of Directors, and
external clients consistent with regulatory guidelines; prepares
other reports as requested by the Executive team and internal
Departments.Assists in the development of internal procedures.
Provides recommendations modifications to relevant legislation and
RSCVA Regulations pertaining to room tax collection, payment of
room taxes, and room tax compliance audits.Participates in all
aspects of room tax audits including scheduling contacting the room
tax licensee to schedule the audit, coordinating audit work, and
collecting records from properties.Perform audits of licensee room
tax revenue collections to ensure compliance with adopted rules,
regulations, ordinances, and statutes.Prepares room tax audit
reports, which includes preparing recommendations to remedy unpaid
room taxes, imposing penalties and interest, and assessing the
adequacy of financial record keeping and internal controls.Reviews
the findings and recommendations of the room tax audit report with
the licensee in a tactful and diplomatic manner.Maintains a working
knowledge of all laws and procedures regarding room tax and
licensees and assists with reviewing and updating such material as
needed. Accurately interprets and applies such laws and procedures
and assures licensee compliance with approved procedures and
laws.Assists the Room Tax Manager and the Vice President of Finance
in the preparation of the RSCVAs annual budget.Other similar duties
as assigned; including but not limited to clerical accounting

School Diploma required; bachelor's degree in Accounting or related
field preferred.Minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible
experience as an accountant, tax auditor, internal auditor or other
related experience required; prior hotel operations and accounting
preferred.Knowledge of the principles and practices of tax
auditing, accounting and financial record keeping; relevant
financial laws, ordinances, rules, and regulations. Knowledge of
hotel operations preferred.Ability to interpret financial
provisions of laws, government regulations, and RSCVA Rules and
Regulations for the Collection of Room Tax.Proficient in basic
computer skills and software programs including, but not limited
to, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.Ability to prioritize
multiple projects.Ability to communicate and create documentation
clearly and effectively in English.Ability to communicate with
diverse clients with sensitivity and effectiveness.Excellent
organizational and interpersonal skills required.Strong written and
oral communication/presentation skills with the ability to
effectively communicate with staff, superiors, visitors, clients,
vendors, and the public.Ability to prioritize multiple
projects.Must be highly motivated and self-directed, detail
oriented, meet established deadlines, and professional in
performance of duties.Must have professional presentation,
appearance, and work ethic.Possess a valid Nevada Driver's
License.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Regularly required to reach with hands and
arms above and below shoulder level.Frequently required to stand,
walk, bend (at neck and waist), stoop, twist, squat, kneel, crawl,
climb, push, and pull, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel
objects, tools, or controls.Simple grasping as well as repetitive
use of hands. Frequently required to talk or hear. Frequently
required to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, and occasionally lift
and/or move up to 25 pounds.Specific vision abilities required
include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, and the
ability to adjust focus.WORKING CONDITIONS /ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:May
be requested to use personal vehicle for transportation of
products.May work near moving mechanical parts.May be exposed to
various room temperatures, fumes, airborne particles, chemicals,
and vibration.The noise level in the work environment is usually
quiet but may increase to moderately loud.
